goodbye malaysia, Hello Thailand!

After finishing my work on the yacht i hastily tried to get the last ferry to penang, where i wanted to get a 2 Month Thai visa.

Turned out the last ferry to Kuala Kedah was full, but i went to the terminal in hope that there would be a spare seat ๐Ÿ˜‰
i was lucky.
After a very rough boats tour, i met a nice old guy who dropped me at the busstation.
From there i drove to Penang.
(for anybody who.wants to get from Langkawi to Penang, this is the latest possibility…and also cheaper than a direct ferry)

In Penang i had a VERY nice taxi driver who helped me a lot, and even wanted.to give some money back because he saw, that i tried to save money ๐Ÿ™‚
It seems all the friendly taxidrivers group up in Penang, because the driver who took me to the embassy the next day told me that you need a passport copy and 2 fotos for applying.
All worked out very well.

While waiting for my visa to finish, i ate at Jim’s place, met some nice people and even got to sleep on the couch there, because all rooms were full.
JIM KNOWS EVERYTHING!!
Go there! It is worth it!!!

I took a minibus to HatYai, and a local bus to Krabi (which is the cheapest way to go!)
on the bus to Krabi i met a nice Thai guy, he couldn’t speak english but when has this ever stopped people from beeing friendly and ole from trusting them.
He had a friend who ownes a karaoke bar in Ao Nang, she could speak english, so i just followed him here ๐Ÿ™‚

Tomorrow i will take the ferry to Koh Lanta.
(so far what happened to me the last days ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Malaysia conclusion:

Malaysia is develloping!
A modern country which is comparable to Poland.
It is a muslim country, the people are racist in a peaceful way: 60% Malay, 30% chinese and 10% tamil…
at least that are the numbers that have to be forfilled in a public university.

It is apparently not as corrupt as Indonesia, not as touristic as Thailand and not as dirty as India.
-> i like malaysia

food: a lot of chinese food here
very good is:
-satee which is kind of a spicy fondue made in peanut sauce…hmmm
-the roti, which is very different from what i was used to from India
-tryย  Jackfruit, a very strange fruit!
i did not like the aftertaste, but i also don’t like blue cheese ๐Ÿ˜€

so long Ole

p.s. we have to switch to the old model again, because the internet in Thailand is very slow…

Daywork on a Superyacht

how do you get a job on a Luxus yacht?

simple:
you go to the jetty of your choice,
you post a poster saying that you look for a ride to thailand,
speak to the first person you see about the weather and your plans
–> TADAA, you accidentially got yourself a wellpaid job on a boat for a few days ๐Ÿ™‚ IMG_1566The Twizzle

Daywork means that you work on the boat from 8am-5pm and then go home again. I found the work surprisingly nice, even though it was just cleaning the engine room.

I got friends with the chef, and he packed some food for me (watermelons, coconuts, cookies etc) i got to try black caviar, which they would have thrown away otherwise…a 300$ pack o.O
And also with the chief engineer, who really liked my work. He wants to get a german 2nd engineer now, because of the german efficiency ๐Ÿ˜€

Now i am in Penang to get the Thaivisa, from here i will probably take the bus to phuket, as there seem to be no ships willing to take me there :/ anyhow, i am looking forward to Thailand.

so long ole

Work and injuries

Ahoi everybody.
i am on a boat as you know.
i work as cook and do scrubbing the deck, winding up the anchor, sail and Dingy (zodiac) etc.

Working as a cook is fun, but in the contrary to cooking for friends you always feel like you have to fulfill an expectation.
There is definitely peer pressure. But it is getting better, i start feeling normal in the kitchen…which becomes really warm, as there is no wind.
It feels like a sauna especially when i have to use the stove…

the menu so far:
day1:
dinner: Prawns aglio olio (thanks to my dad for teaching me that)
day2:
lunch: Tibetan Pizza
dinner: steamed Fish and rice

tomorrow:
lunch: spagetti carbonara
dinner: rosmarin baked chicken

etc…

but thats only one part of my work.
as is stated i have to scrub the deck.
So all together i got 4 cuts on my fingertips…
It makes scrubbing really hard if you have cuts on both thumbs ๐Ÿ˜‰
but the ship slowly looks better than when we started.
and i am glad that my main task is cooking, Stefan has to scrub the deck all the day…

The landscape is beautiful. All the small islands, rocky coasts, mountains… it is amazing.
I am on the internet with my phone, so i still cannot upload pictures :/
but i will for sure.

So long
Ole
p.s. Thanks for all your feedback. It really keeps me motivated to continue keeping up this blog and to keep going.
I actually think about you all the time…it might be a bad thing to think how i can show you something, but i enjoy the time.
You are a bonus ๐Ÿ™‚

My life on a boat

So my dear readers,
i made it. I am officially a pirate.

Well ok almost, i am a ships cook.
My ship is called “Naga Pelangi” which means Rainbow Dragon in Malay. It is the only “Perahu Besar” (mal.: big boat)ย based on the ancient cargo boat design but finished to modern yacht standards.

I have to cook lunch and dinner for the guests and us (Christoph the Skipper and Capt’n, Stefan who is another deckhand and me)
The deck: both pctures are shot from the front

In the back there are some solar panels for providing power.

Stefan and meIMG_1457
This is Christoph at work.

I think the coming time will be amazing.
The next 6 days we have 2 guests onboard.
A chinese couple who are good friends of Christoph.
So we are going to sail around Lankawi, thats cool, so i can see some views of the island as well.
I don’t know how my phone will work the networking.
I am not really able to upload pictures (all of these exept the pic of me and stephen are links ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) so i might have to wait until i have wifi somewhere.
but i will write some stuff.

so long Ole ๐Ÿ™‚
p.s. ARRRR

New years eve in Kuala Lumpur

Dear ย readers, it was ย a long year.
It started and ended with fireworks.
Well for me at least.
I spend less than 3/4 of that year in germany,
While travelling everybody changes, i for example became more quiet and tranquil. It is really easy for me to adapt to different people and cultures, but sometimes there are some things you don’t want to adapt to. That is the priority, don’t break yourself.

I have been told that i am very mature for my age.
Also ย i have been told that i am very childish for my age.

I like the thought, that i act like a child and think like a grown up,
there are too many people who do it the other way around.

I finally found work on a boat.
It will be a charter boat that cruises around Lankawi.
Lankawi is a very beautiful group of islands north of Malaysia.
The boat is a traditional style Malaysian freight ship.

the ship

maybe you noticed the german flag, the skipper is a german.
I will be chef (cook) and deckhand and i am so looking forward to it!

My new years eve was really relaxed, cooking awesome food and then watching the fireworks of the balcony. (after all the food nobody dared to go swimming in the pool ๐Ÿ˜€ )
And ย now some (in my opinion) boring pictures of KL
Just for you ๐Ÿ™‚
IMG_1372ย  IMG_1376 IMG_1380 IMG_1384 IMG_1388 IMG_1391 IMG_1392 IMG_1396 IMG_1397 IMG_1399 IMG_1400 IMG_1404 IMG_1405 IMG_1407
Ok i admit, that i actually like the last picture, but the rest is not really creme de la creme.
Making pictures of fireworks is always diffucult, and with a bad camera it is just snapshooting.

anyhow the pictures from the sea will be more interesting i guess ๐Ÿ™‚

So long

Happy new Year from Malaysia!

After Singapore, i walked over to Malaysia (literally)
In Johor Bharu, i took a bus to Melakka, i wanted to hitchhike, but i was to complicated to get to a big road..
and also the bus was only 9RM (Malaysian Ringit)

In Melakka i got a little city tour from my Couchsurfing host Patricia.

Pisa is not the only place where buildings stand crooked…
IMG_1282IMG_1283 Blue SpiderIMG_1285 I did not have to pay for the fishy massage, i just had to stand still for 2 minutes.
it was really tickling, but sometimes a bigger fish came, and then it actually hurt
IMG_1290 IMG_1291 Me and PatriciaIMG_1292 IMG_1294 IMG_1297 The rikshas in Melakka all had incredible decoration, light and soundsystems with blasting techno music..IMG_1307 IMG_1310 If you can tell me why there is a dragon in the Middle of the town, you get something.
Just write it in the comments.
IMG_1312After Melakka, i took the bus to Kuala Lumpur, again ery cheap and just so comfortable ๐Ÿ˜‰

Me and Anita, my host in Kuala LumpurIMG_1315 Bata Caves of KLIMG_1319 IMG_1318 IMG_1320 With sooo many monkey…oh i love them, i want to raise and train one myself ๐Ÿ˜€IMG_1326 IMG_1327 IMG_1329 IMG_1331 IMG_1334 IMG_1338 IMG_1342 IMG_1343 IMG_1348 IMG_1352 IMG_1353 IMG_1354 IMG_1357 Also if you comment please give me a proper name for this…err…Cow…bird..woman thingIMG_1365 In ย the chinese temple, giant incense sticks!!IMG_1366 And even bigger incense spirals!
